About the Black Cockatoo Gallery

Black Cockatoo Gallery is more than just an art gallery, it is an experience with an environmental message. The exhibited work is inspirational, passionate and educational, highlighting Australian wildlife and nature. The gallery has art for sale, art for collectors, and art lessons for people who want to learn about art and our environment.

Having been inspired by the majestic beauty and the unique eco–system of the Bloomfield region, Ross built his fine art gallery and tea/coffee house within thirty lush acres of the Bloomfield paradise. Situated on the Bloomfield Road, just north of Ayton township, the gallery displays works from the couple who hold a passion for the environment.

Careful planning of the gallery environment and the introduction of native vegetation and water to the property has encouraged endemic wildlife to return to the property and thrive. The garden has won first prizes as Best Native Garden in Cook Shire. A huge variety of native birds, frogs, lizards, wallabies, and rare and endangered animals are regular visitors to the gallery grounds. The property is a wildlife refuge to help sick and injured animals. Ross and Lainie have a particular interest in the birds who live and visit here and welcome bird enthusiasts.

Gallery patrons are encouraged to stay and refresh while enjoying the surrounding bushland and meet some of the wildlife guests. The gallery deck overlooks the property and is perfect for coffee or tea and a snack while you relax.

How the Name Originated

When Ross Franzi purchased the property, a large amount of the area was cleared but where the gallery is situated three mature bloodwood trees remained. In these trees hundreds of black cockatoos were gathered, males and females. ‘What a sight’, hence the name. These birds tend to come back every year, just like the gallery's guests.
